Why Bad Rap Exists

(often confused with "bad rep") means someone or something acquires an undeserved negative reputation or faces unfair criticism. While "rep" is short for reputation, "rap" historically stems from 18th-century slang for punishment or a criminal charge (as in a "rap sheet").
A "rap sheet" is an informal term for a person's official criminal history record.

Historically—-Hip-Hop as a culture is deeply rooted in being beautifully notorious for giving voices to the voiceless. Rap is an art form of storytelling and bold self-expression. I’ve heard it said, all real rappers are preaching something. It’s the message within the music that has established hip-hop’s place in the world of music. In our modern era, over 50 years removed from the birth of Hip-Hop circa 1973, The Bronx NY, this worldwide phenomenon has evolved many times over. One common thread that remains true is that real rap, is able to connect people in a unique way that breaks barriers like no other genre of music. Heart to heart. Mind to mind. Soul to soul. Lyrics can deliver life or death. That exchange is up to the lyricist and the listener. At Bad Rap, we believe that is a sacred relationship and we take it as an honor and heavy mantle of responsibility. We take it seriously. Isaiah 55 promises that God’s Word does not return to Him void, it does what He intends it to do. In John 6, Peter confesses to Jesus, that He has the words of eternal life, then asking on behalf of the remaining disciples “where else would we go?” At Bad Rap, we infuse our content and lyrics with the life that is solely found in Gods Word. Hip-Hop typically gets a “bad rap” these days because of how profitable it has become to abuse and exploit the culture and the listeners. We refuse to partake in that. We see a gap in the game and are here to fill it by God’s grace. With that, we love you and want nothing but The Lord’s absolute best for you and your family.
